Character Counts

Character Counts! is a "nonpartisan, nonsectarian coalition of schools, communities, and nonprofit organizations working to advance character education by teaching the Six Pillars of Character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship". On March 30, 2017, all Macy staff participated in a professional development for Character Counts.

AVID Recruitment

AVID recruitment for the 2017-18 school year has begun. AVID helps students develop their collaborative and study skills to help them become top students so that they can be competitive in the college admissions process and be prepared for the rigor of the university. Applications for new AVID students  are available in the counseling office and need to be turned in by April 12, 2017. Returning AVID students will be guided by their elective teachers on the process. If any students needs help filling out his or her application, please see Ms. Zwaal in room 31.

District Spelling Bee

Jonathan Nguyen is the first place winner of the Montebello Unified Spelling Bee. The Spelling Bee took place on February 15, 2017 at Schurr High School. Jonathan will represent Montebello Unified in the Los Angeles County Spelling Bee.

Annual 6th Grade Spelling Bee

On January 31, 2017 at 3:15, Macy hosted its annual 6th Grade Spelling Bee. Twenty sixth graders competed in this year’s event. It was an exciting event that lasted nineteen rounds. Mr. Zavala served as Spelling Master while Mrs. Matsumoto, Mrs. Blu, and Mr. Flores were judges for the event. Tiana Lu won the Spelling Bee and Jonathan Nguyen was the runner up. Both will go on to participate in the District Spelling Bee in February.

Adelante Young Men's Conference

Macy students at Adelante Young Men s Conference at Pasadena City College

On Saturday, Nov 12th, Macy Intermediate took over 65 boys to the Adelante Young Men's Conference held at Pasadena City College. Our young men were able to attend workshops on various careers, personal development, and motivation. We look forward to taking the girls to the Adelante Mujer Conference in April.

Macy 4H Club News

Macy 4H Club at Distrtict Office

This past October 20th Victoria Morales, President of the Macy 4H Club, thanked our Board of Education for making it possible for the Macy 4H Club to compete at the State 4H Presentation Day held at UC Davis this past May, 28 2016. Macy 4H Club members won 39 awards in the speech and photography competitions. Victoria also thanked Mike Lopez (Macy 4H advisor), Margarita Lopez (Macy 4H Booster President), and all parent volunteers that make our club happen.

Grades of Green Arrives at Macy

Grades of Green offers 40+ Grades of Green Activities aimed to instill environmental values in students. Whether you want to concentrate on conserving air, energy, waste, water, or toxins, Grades of Green has an array of activities that will help protect the environment today while instilling environmental values in students for years to come.

Faculty School Spirit

Macy faculty members celebrated school spirit by wearing their favorite Hawaiian themed clothing. It brought many sunny smiles on a Friday!

After School Clubs

Dear Macy community:

Permission slips for after school clubs will be available in the Main Office beginning Monday October 3rd. A “late” bus will be available THURSDAYS ONLY and will depart from Lupine Ave. at 4pm. Most clubs have limited capacity and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. ALL students need to fill out a permission slip (even if they are already attending a Club).

Traffic Safety

Your child’s safety is our goal. To ensure a safe environment, please support us by doing the following when dropping off or picking up students:

  • Obey all traffic laws
  • Please do not use cellphones while dropping off/picking up students.
  • Do not walk in the middle of the street
  • More information on our website.
